Entrepreneurs are major players in revitalizing downtowns

Innovate Montana Breakout Session

Pick a Montana town that you have been to. Now, think of your favorite place in that town. Is in or around the downtown area? If so, great! Montana has no shortage of historic downtowns that are being re-purposed, being upgraded, and bringing communities back to life. Come hear how entrepreneurs are getting involved with their downtowns by creating sustainable businesses and becoming active participants in revitalizing their communities

The Downtown Revitalization breakout session will feature four speakers from Kalispell to Billings and on down to Wibaux. Mike Nelson, runs the beautiful and modern Northern Hotel in downtown Billings. Speaking of downtown Billings, Jennifer Mercer will come share the story of how the historic Billings Depot went from deteriorating building to a beautifully restored events center and brought life to an otherwise undeveloped area.  Kim Morisaki, is working on revitalizing Kalispell’s downtown through the Kalispell Redevelopment Project. Hear about the future of Kalispell and the huge plans for the city’s downtown. Our final speaker hails from Wibaux and is a brewer, musician, restauranteur, and downtown enthusiast. Jim Devine opened Beaver Creek Brewery in 2008 in a renovated downtown building. Since then, Jim has opened the Gem Theatre and Pub next door making Wibaux a regional destination for connoisseurs of beer, music and good times.

The Downtown Revitalization breakout session will be on July 14 at 10:00 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Go to to register and get the full agenda.
